J Appiah's voice has provided backing vocals for stars like Jess Glynne and Michael Kiwanuka while he's been taking a hiatus from his own music. "Run", his comeback, is accomplished and soulful.
The Hackney-born, Hackney-raised singer-songwriter showcases not only his beautiful voice, but his insightful and honest lyricism on new track "Run".
Having spent the past few years working behind the scenes and behind other musicians he's now ready to use his voice for his own material. Latest release "Run" shows off the depth of his talent. Run is "a song in which I am the subject although it’s sung as though i'm singing to someone else it’s more an imagination of what i think someone would want to say to me. It’s a song about being hard to love," Appiah explains.
All for expressing individuality, he wants his music to be soulful and for that soulfel element to communicate a story. "I’m a London boy with Ghanaian parents I’ve grown up on U.K and U.S singers. I think all of my influences come out in my sound.”
Appiah states “when I pick up my pen, pluck my guitar strings or post up by the microphone, I just want you to feel something.” "Run" certainly makes us feel things.
